Our Story

Our Story

In May 2005, Texas Surf Camps was formed through my love for surfing and support from my family, friends, and long time former sponsor, Quiksilver. My passion for surfing and sharing it with others is the driving force behind Texas Surf Camps and the core value that brings together you, me, our awesome staff, and so many more incredible opportunities through our programs.

I first started teaching surfing when I was in high school as a summer job to make some extra cash. I made flyers to put up around town and friends would refer me as well. My long time sponsor Quiksilver and I had a great relationship since I was about 12 years old. For them to back someone from Texas was a big deal, and I wanted to be the best I could be and show that Texas has potential for surfing. Nearing the end of high school, I had tossed around the idea of a surf school but when Quiksilver approached me about it, I knew I was on the right track and that's when we organized. We started with 1 flat bed trailer, a couple tents, and about 15 boards. 17 years later we are in 3 locations with 15 employees and a fleet of vehicles and trailers carrying our equipment to and from the beach across the Texas coast.

Texas Surf Camps and myself are now supported by Dakine, the world's leading extreme sports outfitter. They are an industry leader and innovator in the action water sports world and have one of the best teams of athletes in the world with multiple world champions on their roster. Our core values are a great match and we are proud to announce another year of partnership with Dakine and Texas Surf Camps.

A big thanks goes to all of our customers past, present, and future for all your support, and another big thanks to our instructors. Without the greatest instructors available, none of this would be possible.

Instructors

Instructors

At Texas Surf Camps, we value our amazing instructors more than anything. Our instructors are the foundation of the surf camp and are the ones that ensure your children's safety and fun while surfing with us.

One major difference between us and other options are the familiar faces of Texas Surf Camps. Several of our instructors have been with us for 10-15 years+!!! They are chosen, not only for their surfing and teaching ability and certifications, but also for their positive attitude, concern for safety and genuine interest in building confidence in each surfer in the ocean environment and passing on with enthusiasm, the amazing experience of surfing.

All of our instructors are certified in CPR and First Aid and most senior instructors are Red Cross certified Waterfront Lifeguards. Check out our great crew of instructors below. Who do you want to surf with?

Morgan Faulkner - Waimea Bay

Texas Surf Camps Director, Morgan Faulkner is one of the best known surfers to come out of Texas. He grew up in Port Aransas, and first got on a surfboard at about age 8. Now, at the ripe old age of 35, he holds 2 national surfing titles, 33 Texas state titles and numerous other titles and pro/am championships from the West Coast, East Coast and Gulf Coast. As an amateur, he was a member of the United States Surf Team, representing the US in surfing around the world. He also competed as a professional in surfing events around the world. He is a master of the short board, long board and paddle board, as well as a certified waterfront lifeguard. He also has a Bachelor of Science degree in business and marketing from Hawaii Pacific University. He is a true waterman. When there is no surf, he might be fishing, diving, wake surfing, tanker surfing and just about anything else that will keep him active and in the water. In addition to his surf camps, he donates time every year to helping others learn to surf through free programs for surfers with disabilities, impaired vision, impaired hearing, cystic fibrosis and spinal injuries. He also donates many weeks of surf camp to schools and charitable organizations around the state of Texas.

Morgan now resides back in Port Aransas but still spends a few months a year in Hawaii during the winter, where he catches some of the world's best waves on a daily basis. You might also see him at other world class surf spots such as Tahiti, Puerto Escondido, the Outer Banks, or Nicaragua. He returns to his home in Texas every summer to share his love of surfing through Texas Surf Camps.

Now in their 18th year, his camps have established a standard of excellence which is the benchmark for surf instruction in Texas. Parents are delighted by the ocean safety and awareness education provided in the context of surf instruction, and the participants are stoked by the incredible amount of fun provided by Morgan and his amazing crew of instructors.

Morgan is looking forward to sharing the stoke with as many new surfers as possible.
